COMMEMORATION OF 2024 GREEN GHANA DAY<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

On June 7th, 2024, Green Ghana Day was marked to plant 10,000,000 trees spearheaded by the Forestry Commission. This government initiative started in 2021 to restore the country\u2019s degraded forest cover. Sustainable Development Alliance (SusDA) collected fruits (coconut, lemon, mango) and shade tree seedlings (Cassia and Mahogany) from Forestry Commission Ghana and planted at Narhman, a community near the Atomic Energy Commission.
The tree planting exercise, code-named \u201cOne Child One Tree\u201d was carried out by Suahunu Eco-club members of Future Stars School located at Ashongman Estates and students of Pentecost Preparatory School located at Madina as an Eco-friendly activity. SusDA also collected seedlings on behalf of The Regent Academy (basic school section of Regent University and V & C Academy, Ashongman Estates.
SusDA planted 90 Cassia seedlings on Narhman Avenue in collaboration with the North Atomic Landlords Association. In addition, SusDA collected seedlings for the immediate past Assemblyman of the Atomic Electoral Area as replacement on the A-Line Road where SusDA planted trees in collaboration with the Electoral Area during Green Ghana Day 2023.
SusDA collaborated with the Forestry Commission Ghana, the Chief, Elders and residents of Narhman, the Assemblyman and Unit Committee Members of the Atomic Electoral Area, and Atinka TV to plant the trees under our child and youth-focused climate programme, Suahunu. The initiative led to a remarkable tree planting exercise.
Nii Odartey Lamptey, was the first to support a student in planting the first tree along the roadside, followed by a Unit Committee Member of the Atomic Electoral Area who also supported a student to plant a tree. The Deputy Executive Director of the Sustainable Development Alliance also planted a tree in the community, and Nii Oquaye also supported the students in planting trees.<\/p>

The children were very excited to participate in the initiative. The Sustainable Development Alliance aims to teach children the “one child one tree” concept, in order to develop their love for nature and make them passionate advocates for environmental conservation from a young age.
After the activity, the community was made responsible for watering the newly planted trees to ensure their growth. SusDA also donated a watering can to the Narhman community for this purpose. The Atinka Media Village covered the event, and a total of 34 students took part in the exercise.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t
